DiaSek® — A Tool for Client Understanding
DiaSek® is a method through which a professional can freely listen to and observe a client's expression in developing interaction. At its core is Dialogical Sequence Analysis (DSA) — a way of listening to how a person positions themselves in their speech in relation to the world, to others, and to themselves.
DiaSek® requires no external testing instruments. It is a method of listening, through which a professional can — even in a first meeting — recognise characteristic patterns and ways of acting in the client's expression: how the client frames their difficulties, whom they address, and what they are able to say.

In a randomised clinical trial (Päijät-Häme Central Hospital, 2015–2016), DiaSek® assessment proved significantly more client-centred than conventional psychiatric assessment: patient-assessor agreement on treatment goals was 0.63 versus 0.26 in conventional assessment (Spearman's Rho).Savander et al., European Journal of Mental Health

DiaSek® is a method that enables the professional to listen to and observe the client's expression in freely unfolding interaction. DiaSek® gives the professional the ability to recognise patterns of action and orientation characteristic of the client already during the first meeting.

Dialogical Sequence Analysis (DSA) originally developed as a method for microanalysis of psychotherapy recordings. The client's expression is studied as a temporally unfolding event of speech referents, speaker's attitude, and the addressee. Who one speaks to is connected to what one can say and how one expresses it. DSA is the conceptual core of the DiaSek® method and dialogical guidance.

Dialogical guidance is a versatile professional approach. It draws on DiaSek® concepts, enabling genuinely client-centred practice. Dialogical guidance has been applied in study counselling, support services for at-risk youth, and primary care physicians' work.
